ಅಷ್ಟಷಷ್ಟಿತಮಸ್ಸರ್ಗಃ

ಜನಕೇನ ಸಮಾದಿಷ್ಟಾ ದೂತಾಸ್ತೇ ಕ್ಲಾಂತವಾಹನಾಃ |
ತ್ರಿರಾತ್ರಮುಷಿತಾ ಮಾರ್ಗೇ ತೇ ಅಯೋಧ್ಯಾಯಾಂ ಪ್ರಾವಿಶನ್ ಪುರೀಮ್ ||

ಸ|| ತೇ ದೂತಾಃ ಜನಕೇನ ಸಮಾದಿಷ್ಟಾಃ ಮಾರ್ಗೇ ತ್ರಿ ರಾತ್ರಂ ಉಷಿತಾ ಕ್ಲಾಂತ ವಾಹನಾಃ ತೇ ಅಯೋಧ್ಯಾಯಾಂ ಪುರೀಮ್ ಪ್ರಾವಿಶನ್|

The messengers thus ordered by Janaka stopping on the way at nights for three days entered Ayodhya with tired vehicles.

ರಾಜ್ಞೋ ಭವನ ಮಾಸಾದ್ಯ ದ್ವಾರಸ್ಥಾನ್ ಇದಮಬ್ರುವನ್ |
ಶೀಘ್ರಂ ನಿವೇದ್ಯತಾಂ ರಾಜ್ಞೇ ದೂತಾನ್ ನೋ ಜನಕಸ್ಯ ಚ |
ಇತ್ಯುಕ್ತಾ ದ್ವಾರಪಾಲಾಸ್ತೇ ರಾಘವಾಯ ನ್ಯವೇದಯನ್ ||

ಸ|| (ತೇ) ರಾಜ್ಞಃ ಭವನಂ ಆಸಾದ್ಯ ದ್ವಾರಸ್ಥಾನ್ ಇದಂ ಅಬ್ರವೀತ್ | ರಾಜ್ಞೇ ಶೀಘ್ರಂ ನಿವೇದ್ಯತಾಂ ಜನಕಸ್ಯ ದೂತಾನ್ ನೋ ಚ| ಇತಿ ಉಕ್ತಾ ತೇ ದ್ವಾರಪಾಲಾಃ ರಾಘವಾಯ ನ್ಯವೇದಯನ್ ||

Reaching the kings palace they spoke as follows."Inform the King immediately that messengers from Janaka have come." The gate keepers having been told so went to inform the scion of Raghu.

ತೇ ರಾಜವಚನಾದ್ದೂತಾ ರಾಜವೇಶ್ಮ ಪ್ರವೇಶಿತಾಃ |
ದದೃಶುರ್ದೇವ ಸಂಕಾಶಂ ವೃದ್ಧಂ ದಶರಥಂ ನೃಪಮ್ ||

ಸ|| ರಾಜವಚನಾತ್ ತೇ ದೂತಾಃ ರಾಜವೇಶ್ಮ ಪ್ರವೇಶಿತಾಃ ದೇವಸಂಕಾಶಂ ವೃದ್ಧಂ ದಶರಥಂ ನೃಪಮ್ ದದೃಶುಃ ||

With the permission of the King , the messengers entered the kings palace and saw the old king Dasaratha who is equal to Devas.

ಬದ್ಧಾಂಜಲಿ ಪುಟಾಸ್ಸರ್ವೇ ದೂತಾ ವಿಗತಸಾಧ್ವಸಾಃ |
ರಾಜಾನಂ ಪ್ರಯತಾ ವಾಕ್ಯಂ ಅಬ್ರುವನ್ ಮಧುರಾಕ್ಷರಮ್ ||

ಸ|| ದೂತಾಃ ವಿಗತಸಾಧ್ವಸಾಃ ಸರ್ವೇ ಬದ್ಧಾಂಜಲಿ ಪುಟಾಃ ರಾಜಾನಂ ಪ್ರಯತಾ ಮಧುರಾಕ್ಷರಂ ವಾಕ್ಯಂ
अब्रुवन् ॥

The messengers relieved of anxiety addressed all with sweet words with folded hands.

ಮೈಥಿಲೋ ಜನಕೋರಾಜಾ ಸಾಗ್ನಿಹೋತ್ರ ಪುರಸ್ಕೃತಮ್ |
ಕುಶಲಂ ಚಾವ್ಯಯಂ ಚೈವ ಸೋಪಾಧ್ಯಾಯಪುರೋಹಿತಮ್ ||

ಸ|| ಮೈಥಿಲಃ ಜನಕಃ ಸ ಅಗ್ನಿಹೋತ್ರ ಪುರಸ್ಕೃತಮ್ ರಾಜಾ ಸ ಉಪಾಧ್ಯಾಯ ಪುರೋಹಿತಂ ಅವ್ಯಯಂ ಕುಶಲಂ ಚ ( ಅಬ್ರುವನ್) ||

"Janaka the king of Mithila is enquiring about the welfare of the king known for fire rituals along with his priests and Gurus"

ಮುಹುರ್ಮುಹುರ್ಮಧುರಯಾ ಸ್ನೇಹ ಸಂಯುಕ್ತಯಾ ಗಿರಾ |
ಜನಕಸ್ತ್ವಾಂ ಮಹಾರಾಜ ಪೃಚ್ಛತೇ ಸಪುರಸ್ಸರಮ್ ||

ಸ|| ಹೇ ಮಹರಾಜ ಮಧುರಯಾ ಸ್ನೇಹ ಸಂಯುಕ್ತಯಾ ಮುಹುಃ ಮುಹುಃ ಮಹಾರಾಜ ಜನಕಃ ತ್ವಾಂ ಸಪುರಸ್ಸರಮ್ ಪೃಚ್ಛತೇ ||

"Oh King ! With sweet words full of friendship Janaka is again and again enquiring about your welfare".

ಪೃಷ್ಟ್ವಾ ಕುಶಲ ಮವ್ಯಗ್ರಂ ವೈದೇಹೋ ಮಿಥಿಲಾಧಿಪಃ |
ಕೌಶಿಕಾನುಮತೇ ವಾಕ್ಯಂ ಭವಂತಂ ಇದಮಬ್ರವೀತ್ ||

ಸ|| ಮಿಥಿಲಾಧಿಪಃ ವೈದೇಹಃ ಅವ್ಯಗ್ರಂ ಕುಶಲಂ ಪೃಷ್ಟ್ವಾ ಕೌಶಿಕಸ್ಯ ಅನುಮತೇ ಇದಂ ವಾಕ್ಯಂ ಭವಂತಂ ಅಬ್ರವೀತ್ ||

"The King of Mithila having enquired your welfare , and with the permission of Kausika conveyed the following to you".

ಪೂರ್ವಂ ಪ್ರತಿಜ್ಞಾ ವಿದಿತಾ ವೀರ್ಯಶುಲ್ಕಾ ಮಮಾತ್ಮಜಾ |
ರಾಜಾನಶ್ಚ ಕೃತಾಮರ್ಷಾಃ ನಿರ್ವೀರ್ಯಾ ವಿಮುಖೀಕೃತಾಃ ||

ಸ|| ಪೂರ್ವಂ ಮಮಾತ್ಮಜಾ ವೀರ್ಯಶುಲ್ಕಾ (ಇತಿ) ಪ್ರತಿಜ್ಞಾ ( ತೇ ) ವಿದಿತಾ | ರಾಜಾನಃ ಕೃತಮರ್ಷಾಃ ನಿರ್ವೀರ್ಯಾ ವಿಮುಖೀಕೃತಾಃ (ಇತಿ ತೇ ವಿದಿತಾ) ||

'That earlier we had taken a vow to offer Sita only to the most valiant hero is known. It is also known that many kings tried and returned unsuccessful'.

ಸೇಯಂ ಮಮಸುತಾ ರಾಜನ್ ವಿಶ್ವಾಮಿತ್ರಪುರಸ್ಸರೈಃ |
ಯದೃಚ್ಛಯಾ ಗತೈ ರ್ವೀರೈಃ ನಿರ್ಜಿತಾ ತವ ಪುತ್ತ್ರಕೈಃ ||

ಸ|| ಹೇ ರಾಜನ್ ! ಯದೃಚ್ಛಯಾ ವಿಶ್ವಾಮಿತ್ರಪುರಸ್ಸರೈಃ ಗತೈಃ ವೀರೈಃ ತವಪುತ್ರಕೈಃ ಸ ಅಯಂ ಮಮಸುತಾ ನಿರ್ಜಿತಾ ||

'Oh Rajan ! Fortunately the the two valiant sons of yours who followed Viswamitra won over my daughter'.

ತಚ್ಛ ರಾಜನ್ ಧನುರ್ದಿವ್ಯಂ ಮಧ್ಯೇ ಭಗ್ನಂ ಮಹಾತ್ಮನಾ |
ರಾಮೇಣ ಹಿ ಮಹಾರಾಜ ಮಹತ್ಯಾಂ ಜನಸಂಪದಿ ||

ಸ|| ಹೇ ರಾಜನ್ ! ಮಹತ್ಯಾಂ ಜನಸಂಪದಿ ತತ್ ದಿವ್ಯಂ ಧನುಃ ಮಹಾತ್ಮನಾ ರಾಮೇಣ ಮಧ್ಯೇ ಭಗ್ನಂ ಚ ಹಿ ||

'Oh Rajan ! In front of many great people Rama has broken that celestial bow in the middle'.

ಅಸ್ಮೈ ದೇಯಾ ಮಯಾ ಸೀತಾ ವೀರ್ಯ ಶುಲ್ಕಾ ಮಹಾತ್ಮನೇ|
ಪ್ರತಿಜ್ಞಾಂ ಕರ್ತುಮಿಚ್ಛಾಮಿ ತದನುಜ್ಞಾತು ಮರ್ಹಸಿ ||

ಸ|| ಅಸ್ಮೈ ಮಹಾತ್ಮನೇ ವೀರ್ಯಶುಲ್ಕಾ ಸೀತಾ ದೇಯಾ ಪ್ರತಿಜ್ಞಾಂ ಕರ್ತುಮಿಚ್ಛಾಮಿ | ತತ್ ಅನುಜ್ಞಾತು ಮರ್ಹಸಿ ||

'I would like to keep my vow of giving Sita to the valorous man by giving her to him. I request your permission'.

ಸೋಪಾಧ್ಯಾಯೋ ಮಹಾರಾಜ ಪುರೋಹಿತಪುರಸ್ಸರಃ |
ಶೀಘ್ರ ಮಾಅಗಚ್ಛ ಭದ್ರಂ ತೇ ದ್ರಷ್ಟುಮರ್ಹಸಿ ರಾಘವೌ ||

ಸ|| ಭದ್ರಂ ತೇ | ಹೇ ಮಹಾರಾಜ ಸ ಉಪಾಧ್ಯಾಯ ಪುರೋಹಿತ ಪುರಸ್ಸರಃ ಶೀಘ್ರಂ ಆಗಚ್ಛ | ರಾಘವೌ ದ್ರಷ್ಟುಮರ್ಹಸಿ ||

'Oh King! May everything be auspicious. Please come soon along with your priests and gurus. You can see Rama and Lakshmana too'.

ಪ್ರೀತಿಂ ಚ ಮಮ ರಾಜೇಂದ್ರ ನಿರ್ವರ್ತಯಿತುಮರ್ಹಸಿ |
ಪುತ್ತ್ರಯೋ ರುಭಯೋ ರೇವ ಪ್ರೀತಿಂ ತ್ವಮಪಿ ಲಪ್ಸ್ಯಸೇ ||

ಸ|| ಹೇ ರಾಜೇಂದ್ರ ! ಮಮ ಪ್ರೀತಿಂಚ ನಿರ್ವತಯಿತುಮರ್ಹಸಿ | ಉಭಯೋಃ ಪುತ್ರಯೋಃ ಪ್ರೀತಿಂ ಏವ ತ್ವಂ ಅಪಿ ಲಪ್ಸ್ಯಸೇ ||

'Oh Best of Kings ! Please accept our request. You can share in the happiness of you two children'.

ಏವಂ ವಿದೇಹಪತಿಃ ಮಧುರಂ ವಾಕ್ಯಮಬ್ರವೀತ್ |
ವಿಶ್ವಾಮಿತ್ರಾಭ್ಯನುಜ್ಞಾತಃ ಶತಾನಂದ ಮತೇ ಸ್ಥಿತಃ ||

ಸ|| ಏವಂ ವಿಶ್ವಾಮಿತ್ರ ಅಭ್ಯನುಜ್ಞಾತಃ ಶತಾನನ್ದ ಮತೇ ಸ್ಥಿತಃ ವಿದೇಹಪತಿಃ ಮಧುರಂ ವಾಕ್ಯಂ ಅಬ್ರವೀತ್ ||

"Thus spoke Janaka with sweet words with the permission of Viswamitra and as per the direction of Satananda".

ದೂತವಾಕ್ಯಂ ತು ತಚ್ಛ್ರುತ್ವಾ ರಾಜಾ ಪರಮಹರ್ಷಿತಃ |
ವಸಿಷ್ಠಂ ವಾಮದೇವಂ ಚ ಮಂತ್ರಿಣೋ sನ್ಯಾಂಶ್ಚ ಸೋs ಬ್ರವೀತ್ ||

ಸ|| ತತ್ ದೂತವಾಕ್ಯಂ ಶ್ರುತ್ವಾ ರಾಜಾ ಪರಮ ಹರ್ಷಿತಃ ( ಅಭವತ್) | ಸಃ ವಸಿಷ್ಟಂ ವಾಮದೇವಂ ಚ ಮಂತ್ರಿಣೋ ಅನ್ಯಾಂ ಚ ಅಬ್ರವೀತ್ ||

Hearing that message from the messengers the king was very happy. He spoke to Vasishta , Vamadeva and other ministers.

ಗುಪ್ತಃ ಕುಶಿಕಪುತ್ರೇಣ ಕೌಶಲ್ಯಾನಂದವರ್ಧನಃ |
ಲಕ್ಷ್ಮಣೇನ ಸಹ ಭ್ರಾತ್ರಾ ವಿದೇಹೇಷು ವಸತ್ಯಸೌ ||

ಸ|| ಕೌಸಲ್ಯಾನನ್ದವರ್ಧನಃ ಭ್ರಾತಾ ಲಕ್ಷ್ಮಣೇನ ಸಹ ಕುಶಿಕಪುತ್ರೇಣ ಗುಪ್ತಃ | ವಿದೇಹೇಷು ವಸತ್ಯಸೌ ||

"The son of Kausalya and brother Lakshmana are under the protection of Kausika. They are in the kingdom of Videha".

ದೃಷ್ಟವೀರ್ಯಸ್ತು ಕಾಕುತ್‍ಸ್ಥೋ ಜನಕೇನ ಮಹಾತ್ಮನಾ |
ಸಂಪ್ರದಾನಂ ಸುತಾಯಾಸ್ತು ರಾಘವೇ ಕರ್ತುಮಿಚ್ಛತಿ ||

ಸ|| ಮಹಾತ್ಮನಾ ಜನಕೇನ ಕಾಕುತ್‍ಸ್ಥೌ ದೃಷ್ಟ ವೀರ್ಯಸ್ತು ಸುತಾಯಾಃ ರಾಘವೇ ಸಂಪ್ರದಾನಂ ಕರ್ತುಮಿಚ್ಛತಿ ||

"The great Janaka , having see the two kakutstha princes , decided to offer his daughter to Rama".

ಯದಿ ವೋ ರೋಚತೇ ವೃತ್ತಂ ಜನಕಸ್ಯ ಮಹಾತ್ಮನಃ |
ಪುರೀಂ ಗಚ್ಛಾಮಹೇ ಶೀಘ್ರಂ ಮಾಭೂತ್ ಕಾಲಸ್ಯ ಪರ್ಯಯಃ ||

ಸ|| ಯದಿ ವೋ ಜನಕಸ್ಯ ವೃತ್ತಂ ರೋಚತೇ ಶೀಘ್ರಂ ಮಹಾತ್ಮನಃ ಪುರೀಂ ಗಚ್ಛಾಮಹೇ | ಕಾಲಸ್ಯ ಪರ್ಯಯಃ ಮಾಭೂತ್ ||

"If you like Janaka's offer we will go to his city. We may not lose time".

ಮಂತ್ರಿಣೋ ಭಾಢಮಿತ್ಯಾಹುಃ ಸಹ ಸರ್ವೈರ್ಮಹರ್ಷಿಭಿಃ |
ಸುಪ್ರೀತಶ್ಚಾಬ್ರವೀ ದ್ರಾಜಾ ಶ್ವೋ ಯಾತ್ರೇತಿ ಸ ಮಂತ್ರಿಣಃ ||

ಸ|| ಸರ್ವೈಃ ಮಹರ್ಷಿಭಿಃ ಮಂತ್ರಿಣಃ ಸಹ ಭಾಢಂ ಇತಿ ಆಹುಃ | ಸುಪ್ರೀತಃ ಶ್ವೋ ಸಮಂತ್ರಿಣಃ ಯಾತ್ರೇತಿ ರಾಜಾ ಅಬ್ರವೀತ್ ||

All the Rishis along with ministers said "very good". Delighted king said they will travel on the very next day.

ಮಂತ್ರಿಣಸ್ತಾಂ ನರೇಂದ್ರಸ್ಯ ರಾತ್ರಿಂ ಪರಮ ಸತ್ಕೃತಾಃ |
ಊಷುಸ್ತೇ ಮುದಿತಾಸ್ಸರ್ವೇ ಗುಣೈಸ್ಸರ್ವೈ ಸ್ಸಮನ್ವಿತಾಃ ||

ಸ||ನರೇಂದ್ರಸ್ಯ ತಾಂ ಮಂತ್ರಿಣಃ ಪರಮ ಸತ್ಕೃತಾಃ ಸರ್ವೈ ಗುಣೈಃ ಸಮನ್ವಿತಾಃ ಮುದಿತಾಃ ರಾತ್ರಿಂ ಊಷುಸ್ತೇ ||

The ministers of the King who are well accomplished and who are adorned with many good qualities spent the night happily.

ಇತ್ಯಾರ್ಷೇ ಶ್ರೀಮದ್ರಾಮಾಯಣೇ ವಾಲ್ಮೀಕೀಯೇ ಆದಿಕಾವ್ಯೇ ಬಾಲಾಕಾಂಡೇ ಅಷ್ಟಷಷ್ಟಿತಮಸ್ಸರ್ಗಃ ||
